Watch These 8 Inspiring Movies And Reach Your 2025 Goals | Cinemaworld

Mariah Carey’s snowglobe has cracked (don’t worry, she will be rebirthed coming December), the snow has melted and 2024 has been swept and dusted — WELCOME 2025

As with every new year comes the many resolutions we set for ourselves, written in point-form in our journals or post-it notes plastered on mirrors:

1. Finally, I will get that gym membership and go thrice a week (at least).

2. This year, I will eat healthier, and eat out less!

3. I’ll be more productive, read more, find new hobbies that hopefully last longer than a couple months.

4. 2025 is MY year!

Etcetera etcetera…

And then after January, or February, we soon forget all these goals as we get caught up with the perpetual churn of the everyday, attending to the menial necessities, work, family, friends — life

But amid the mundanity is imminent change — the endless slivers of second chances, of novelty and rebirth, hidden in the folds of time. Opportunities are everywhere if you look hard enough, and reach far enough.

Before you toss out that list of New Year’s resolutions, let’s embrace those possibilities with these 8 inspirational movies that we’ve curated to inspire hope and new beginnings for your 2025.

A heartwarming story of rediscovering oneself amid life’s challenges, this romance drama will make you believe in love and second chances.

A Dose Of Happiness

Based on the autobiographical book Fall and Salvation by the late Bulgarian journalist, Vesela Toteva, A Dose of Happiness follows a young Vesela on her search for happiness, only to meet with a domino of obstacles in adulthood. At 20, Vesela enters an early marriage that turns sour quickly, leaving a single mother waiting tables at a nightclub. Luck seems to strike when she meets Ivan, a man twice her age, who is willing to take her and her 3-year-old daughter Valya in.

However, the newfound life she has built with her daughter and Ivan soon shatters when the angelic Joro enters the picture. After what seems like a casual smoke with Joro, Vesela wakes up the next morning suffering withdrawal symptoms, drawing her down a perilous spiral into heroin addiction.

In this raw and powerful tale of addiction, survival, and redemption, Valentina Karoleva — who is Vesela Toteva's daughter in real life — delivers a deeply moving performance, capturing the heartache and hope that defined her mother's life.

Lucky Girl

Based on the true story of Ukrainian TV presenter, actress and producer of the film Yanina Sokolova, Lucky Girl (Official Selection, Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival 2022) follows the difficult journey of popular TV talk show host, Nina Sokil as she falls from her peak of fame after being diagnosed with cancer.

In an effort to protect her public image, Pola’s father sends her to a rehabilitation center, where she meets the charismatic and unconventional instructor, Borys — a former musician with a troubled past. As the two connect over their shared passion for music, a budding romance begins. But as the secrets of Borys's past unravel and Pola’s career hangs in the balance, their relationship is put to the test and the two have to confront their own demons.

Roise & Frank

With the dog’s companionship, the walls Roisie has built around herself begin to crack as she learns to find hope again.

Irreplaceable

In 2016 French box office hit Irreplaceable, a small-town doctor Jean-Pierre Werner, who is revered for his brilliance and devotion, discovers that he has an inoperable tumour. Between receiving treatment for his illness and attending to his patient, Jean-Pierre is undeniably in need of support in his practice. Eventually, a doctor from the city arrives to assist him. But her presence is troubling — is he no longer as irreplaceable as he once believed?

This moving and heartfelt drama captures the protagonist’s desperate battle against his bodily decline, whilst preserving his dignity and role as a respected doctor in his community.

Three Times Nothing

In this touching French comedy, three homeless men experience a miraculous twist of fate when they win the lottery, offering them a fresh start. However, their dreams of a new life quickly hit a wall as they face a maze of bureaucracy, with no ID, bank accounts, or stable housing to their name—leaving their newfound fortune out of reach.

As they navigate these challenges, they find unexpected allies along the way, and with the kindness of strangers, a glimmer of hope begins to emerge.

Confetti

Starring renowned Chinese actress Zhu Zhu and Academy Award nominee Amy Irving, Confetti is a story about a mother’s unwavering love and one’s optimism in the tumult of change.

Inspired by director Ann Hu's own experience navigating her daughter’s dyslexia, this gently moving drama follows Lan, whose daughter Meimei is shunned by her school in China due to her learning disability. Determined to give her daughter a chance at a “normal” childhood, Lan travels to New York City with Meimei, despite not speaking the language. There, Meimei is offered the chance to attend a school for dyslexic children. With the help of Helen (Amy Irving), a writer whom Lan cares for, the two women join forces to find Meimei the right educational opportunities tailored to her needs.

Director Hu’s inspirational story has also gone beyond the screen to transform the lives of children with dyslexia in its advocating for education for people with learning specialties.
