Vesela's search for happiness leads her into an early marriage that goes cold by the time she is 20. Breaking away from her husband, Vesela takes a job waiting tables at a night club, where she meets Ivan, twice her age, who takes her in along with her 3-year-old daughter Valya. One day the angelic Joro turns up in the club and takes Vesela into a bar back room for a smoke. She wakes up the next morning suffering from withdrawal; and later learns her life is now all about heroin which brings her relationship with Ivan to the breaking point. Now, Joro becomes Vesela's playmate and lover. Vesela's sister, Bistra, takes her to a quack doctor but the remedy fails. When Ivan kicks her out, Vesela and Valya move in with Bistra and Vesela takes a job at a posh restaurant where she tries to keep her habit a secret. She continues to meet Joro where they get high in the woods behind the restaurant. Consumed by her addiction, Vesela suddenly finds herself alone...

Based on the autobiographical book Fall and Salvation, written by journalist Vessela Toteva, the movie explores eight years of personal struggles with heroin and methadone addiction. The character, Vessela, is played by Valentina Karoleva, who is Toteva’s daughter in real life.
