In this epic romantic drama set in Denmark in 1913, Anton, a noble and conscientious young man, is training as a cavalry officer. During a training session he orders his platoon to help Baron von Løvenskjold and finds himself invited to a ball at the castle where he meets the Baron’s beautiful but miserable daughter Edith who is physically handicapped after an unfortunate accident. Anton feels a growing compassion towards Edith, and as the two spend more time together he grows fond of her. However, he can’t figure out whether his feelings are of pity or true love, and in his attempt at doing the right thing he gets ever more entangled in promises, lies, and responsibility towards the Løvenskjold family and to Edith.

“
Even though “The Kiss” takes place in a historic environment, it’s definitely not the intention to make a “period piece”, a “costume drama”. On the contrary, the time, the period is simply thought as a grand, picturesque, cinematic backdrop, where the actual content, the form and progressive style of storytelling is the bearing, present, energetic and irresistible element. Where aesthethic and moral – the visually fantastic and the life affirming drama – come together in a larger, ubiquitous entity, a matchless filmic universe.
