Director's Statement
“
Is the love of a mother always good?
Growing up as an Tiong Hoa-Indonesian or Chinese Indonesian child, I found myself on the receiving end of my mother's strict rules. My mother's actions undoubtedly had their reasons, but it also hindered my ability to form friendships and experience the world beyond my home.
As I grew up, I began to understand that parents have their own reasons and fears... but at their core, they stem from a place of love. The short film delves into the challenges of navigating one's cultural heritage while grappling with deep-seated emotions, a struggle often faced in Asian households. These first-hand experiences are what inspired this short movie, the good and the bad, and everything in between.
