Details
In the dead of a freezing winter, in small town Maine where nothing ever happens, school bus driver Lesley does her end-of-day check of the bus. In a moment of odd wonder a bluebird flies into the bus, gripping her attention for just seconds. As the unwary bluebird exits, Lesley’s mind has already moved on. Tragically, she has failed to notice a young boy asleep in one of the back row seats. It’s an oversight that has immense implications. The following morning, ready to start her school run, she comes across the boy – he is already in a coma and close to death. The incident, triggered by the intrusion of a tiny glitch in the fabric of mundane life, spirals the small ‘ordinary’ town into an emotional storm of blame, guilt and heartbreaking confrontation.

Trivia
Winter in Maine can be peaceful and serene – it can also be lonely and terrifying.
Filmmaker Lance Edmands, a native of the state, had always wanted to convey that feeling.
The film came out of an inspiration from the landscape and mythology of a particular area in the northwest part of the state, known as the Katahdin Region, for Mt. Katahdin, Maine’s tallest peak. “It overlooks a town called Millinocket, which is at the edge of a big wilderness territory, called the Great North Woods,” a colossal forest which has long been the source for the region’s many – but dwindling – paper mills.

“
As a filmmaker, I’m drawn to environment and atmosphere. To me, the relationship between people and landscape is completely fascinating. This fascination is ultimately what compelled me to explore the mythology of where I grew up. In Maine, the dense forest looms ever present, reminding us that nature is king and we are simply at the mercy of its will...
