The story of a childhood full of deprivation in Riga in the 1930s. Based on the semi-autobiographical works of Latvian Nobel Prize in Literature nominee Vizma Belševica. Billie, an extraordinary and creative little girl attempts to comprehend the confusing adult world and to prove her own value despite her mother’s lack of appreciation and love in late 1930s Europe. Confronted by her mother’s contempt for her, Bille finds an escape in her vivid imagination and looks for the Dreamland.
